ATTENTION VOLUNTEERS
Please join us on Saturday & Sunday, December 5 & 6 to assist with the
Phase I Archaeological Survey of the Natural Bridge Battlefield Historic State Park.
Time: 8:30 A.M. to 5:30 P.M.
Date: Saturday, December 5 and Sunday, December 6, 2009
Place: Natural Bridge Battlefield Historic State Park - (Left at Woodville Elementary and 6 miles on Natural Bridge Road)
Volunteer Activities: Metal detectors will be used to sweep the battlefield to locate artifacts related to the 1865 Civil War Battle of Natural Bridge. Volunteers will flag the “hit” locations, dig test holes, and sift soil. Artifacts recovered will be bagged and marked for later cleaning, preservation, and interpretation. Additional test holes will be dug and sifted to locate non-metallic prehistoric materials. All field activities will be conducted under the direct supervision of the Florida Park Service and Environmental Services, Inc. of Jacksonville (the archaeologist).
Training: Each volunteer must attend a 30 minute training session prior to participating in the field work.
Facilities: The NBHS will provide grilled hot dogs and sodas for a small donation. Bathroom facilities will be available. Park entrance fees will be waived for both days.
For more information, contact Barry Burch, Park Manager at (850) 922-6007.
